Ben-Gurion University was featured on NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt.

NBC News — Everyday, Prof. Daniel Chamovitz, President of Ben-Gurion University, has been attending a number of funerals held by the BGU community after the October 7th terrorist attack on Israel. “You just hug them. There are no words,” Chamovitz says, when asked about how he’s able to comfort these grieving families.

The parking lot of the university has transformed into a donation center and study rooms are being used as a command center to answer calls for help. Classes have been postponed, as more than 1,000 students left campus to serve in the battle.

Year six medical student, Eyal Pasternak of Ben-Gurion University was interviewed by Kelly Cobiella of NBC News, explaining how he heard sirens, and ran to the hospital to save lives.

“The screams, smells, sights, was really horrible. One soldier had been shot in the armpit, his main artery had been hit.” Pasternak stopped the bleeding by using his owns hands. He now wants to be a trauma surgeon after facing the horrendous reality of the Israel-Hamas war.
