BGU ranked 15th in this year’s Nature Index of Young Universities, which was released recently. The Index ranks universities 50 years old or younger in the natural sciences. It is a clear indication that BGU is on the right track as it matures into its second half-century.

Nature Index measures article count (AC) and fractional count (FC). The first (AC) is the total number of articles published by an institution’s affiliated authors in the 82 publications tracked by the Index. FC measures the share of those institutions’ contributions to each article.

“As we set our sights on recruiting more top-tier young faculty, and carrying out ever impactful research, this ranking shows us we are heading in the right direction. As we age out of the young universities, we are poised to ascend to even greater heights,” says BGU President Prof. Daniel Chamovitz. BGU turns 50 in May of this year.

BGU researchers published 133 articles in publications tracked by the Nature Index from September 1, 2018, to August 31, 2019. The Index also analyzed the articles by subject, where physical sciences were BGU’s strongest suit, followed by chemistry, earth and environmental sciences, and life sciences, in descending order.
