Meditation Helps Clear Mental Ruts

Researchers Jonathan Greenberg, Keren Reiner and Prof. Nachshon Meiran of BGU’s Department of Psychology recently published a paper about meditation and myopic thinking in the scientific journal PLoS ONE.

In their research study, participants had to pour a specific amount of water into a cup by using three jars in the simplest, shortest method possible.

The participants who were give meditation training were better able to switch between different strategies to find the optimal solution.

“Mindfulness makes us less automatic, less blinded by our habits and past experiences, and enables us to better consider alternatives, to experience things in a fresh way, and with more of a ‘beginner’s mind,'” says Greenberg.
