Globes — “From no high-tech jobs in the Negev, Beer-Sheva is becoming a high-tech powerhouse in Israel,” said Beer-Sheva Mayor Ruvik Danilovich at a recent press conference in Tel Aviv to mark the inauguration of the city’s Advanced Technologies Park (ATP).
With the opening of the ATP adjacent to BGU’s Marcus Family Campus, Israel’s high-tech industry’s center of gravity is shifting south to Beer-Sheva.
The ATP is home to Ness Technologies, Ltd., EMC Israel, Oracle Israel, and Deutsche Telekom’s Innovation Laboratories at BGU.
The Israeli army’s military intelligence units are scheduled to move to Israel’s Negev region.
What’s more, IBM just announced that it will set up its cyber laboratory in Beer-Sheva.
“In the United States, you find the Silicon Valley; we will be satisfied for Beer-Sheva to be the Silicon Wadi,” added Mayor Danilovich.
In collaboration with the Israeli government and the Beer-Sheva municipality, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev was the founding force behind the ATP, seeking to encourage development and jobs in the Negev.
