After October 7th, Sharon Chenweno, an international PhD student on BGU’s Sde Boker campus, contemplated returning to her home in Kenya, but she knew she was where she needed to be. Growing up in an arid region of Kenya, Sharon witnessed the challenges of unpredictable rainfall and limited irrigation. This motivated her to seek out the best institution to study efficient agricultural and irrigation practices—the Jacob Blaustein Institutes for Desert Research (BIDR). She is using her research to tackle one of the most pressing issues facing her home country: food insecurity.
