BGU is the beating heart of the Negev—where education, research, and community are leading the Way Forward. Just 22 miles from Gaza, October 7 and the Iranian missile attacks, directly and disproportionately impacted BGU and the Negev, with one in ten lives lost on October 7 belonging to the BGU community.
Our students, faculty, and staff are enduring perpetual traumatic stress. Thousands continue to serve in reserves. Recent missile attacks from Iran temporarily closed our campuses, damaging 30 buildings and dormitories on BGU’s Beer-Sheva campus, destroying nine critical research labs, forcing relocation of medical research and teaching facilities that were formerly in the Soroka University Medical Center, and directly hitting the sports center.
• Emotional & Psychological Support: Helping our community navigate ongoing PTSD and deep trauma.
• Student Reservist Stipends: Providing a $250 stipend to ease the immense burden on those defending the nation.
• Campus & Lab Renovation: Rebuilding damaged buildings and critical research labs.
• Financial Support for Displaced Students and Staff: Aiding those whose homes were marred by missile attacks.
• Support for the Negev Community: As the anchor institution in the Negev, BGU has an obligation to ensure the entire region recovers and is uplifted in the face of the unparalleled attack.
BGU’s role as the anchor institution of the Negev has never been more vital to Israel’s recovery and rebuilding efforts. Please join us in helping the University provide the psychological, academic, and community support needed to heal from the wounds of war and emerge stronger than ever.
