Turning Carbon Dioxide into Jet Fuel

Green Prophet — Ben-Gurion University of the Negev was recently recognized yet again for being a leader in alternative energy research.

Prof. Moti Herskowitz, BGU’s vice president and dean for research and development, and Prof. Miron Landau from BGU’s Department of Chemical Engineering and Blechner Center for Industrial Catalysis and Process Development were awarded a highly competitive Israel Strategic Alternative Energy Foundation (I-SAEF) grant to advance their groundbreaking research in liquid fuels.

Prof. Herskowitz heads The BGU Energy Initiative, which is developing a range of alternative fuels, from solar energy to biomass, to replace the world’s dependence on oil.

He was also recently appointed to lead the National Committee on Energy R&D, part of the Israel National Council for R&D.

As director of the Blechner Center of Industrial Catalysis and Process Development, Prof. Herskowitz has been focusing on renewable liquid fuels for many years.

This latest grant will help fund a research program focused on determining whether carbon dioxide can be effectively used to produce jet fuel.
