The Detroit Jewish News – More than 80 people attended a screening of Ben-Gurion, Epilogue hosted by Americans for Ben-Gurion University (A4BGU) at Congregation Shaarey Zedek (CSZ) on January 21 in Southfield.

The film was made possible when a six-hour interview soundtrack with Israel’s first prime minister, David Ben-Gurion, was discovered in the depths of the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU) archive. The interview was recorded in 1968, when Ben-Gurion was 82 years old, five years before his death. His introspective soul-searching provides a surprising vision for today’s crucial decisions and the future of Israel.

Ben-Gurion envisioned that the Negev region, at the time a vast desert, would today represent a Zionist rebirth of Israeli pioneering — university scientists, farmers, entrepreneurs, new immigrants, and an ever-growing presence of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), all of whom are working to secure Israel’s future. This is “Ben-Gurion’s Zionism transplanted and reinvigorated in the 21st century,” according to Doug Seserman, CEO of A4BGU.

“Indeed, the past is prologue in Ben-Gurion, Epilogue,” Seserman says. “‘The difficult we do first; the impossible takes a little longer,’ Ben-Gurion famously said. His vision in the past — of impossible circumstances overcome — is a Zionist vision we can embrace today. His dream transcends politics and conflict. It’s a clarion call we can all rally around.”

If you are in the Philadelphia area, you can register here for A4BGU’s next Ben-Gurion Epilogue screening in Elkins Park, PA on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at Beth Sholom Congregation. Don’t miss it!
