TechNews Daily — Dr. Sergey Biryukov, a researcher at the Ben-Gurion National Solar Energy Center located at BGU’s Sde Boker campus, has developed a technique that enables photovoltaic solar panels to repel dust.

The technique uses an electric field to charge dust and small particles before repelling them, clearing the way for the sun’s rays to more powerfully hit the panels.

A major obstacle to the efficiency of solar energy is the dust that tends to adhere to the panels.

“This technology can be added to solar panels after they have already been manufactured and installed, meaning it could be used to retrofit old solar cells,” says Dr. Biryukov.
