Prof. Amir Sagi’s influential research in the field of crustacean aquaculture has significantly contributed to advances in its production as a protein source in many countries around the world. He was one of the first scientists to demonstrate the significance of crustacean intersexuality based on genetics and glandular function, and his findings have led to a greater understanding of sexual development in other diverse animal groups. His work has led to major scientific breakthroughs for disease elimination, as well as developments in sustainable and environmentally friendly techniques for producing all male or all female populations for aquaculture, and for controlling invasive crustacean species.
