Prof. Alon Friedman is director of BGU’s Zlotowski Center for Neuroscience. His research team is working on multiple groundbreaking research projects that focus on the prevention of and/or cure for traumatic brain injury and repairing the blood-brain barrier. He made a dramatic discovery about the blood-brain barrier and its connection to the onset of trauma-induced epilepsy following concussions by professional football players.

Prof. Friedman is using new MRI imaging techniques that are more sensitive and may enable early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy or chronic trauma encephaly (CTE) following brain trauma. A new drug to prevent epilepsy after injury is being developed by Prof. Friedman and his research team.
