TLV1 — Dr. Avi Bareli, a lecturer at BGU’s Ben-Gurion Research Institute for the Study of Israel and Zionism, speaks to TLV1 radio about his new book.
Authority and Participation in a New Democracy: Political Struggles in Mapai, Israel’s Ruling Party, 1948-1953 was recently published by Academic Studies Press.
In the interview, Dr. Bareli dispels the notion that David Ben-Gurion was a power hungry leader, despite his authoritative leadership style.
“Ben-Gurion was a leader that aimed to create authority, not necessarily his own authority, but the authority of the institutes he was creating as the new State of Israel was being established,” says Dr. Bareli.
