The tool developed by Prof. Neuman found in President Obama’s ISIS speech that the President is emotionally stable and under control. The tool also picked up high levels of an “avoidance” trait. Individuals with this trait tend to feel uncomfortable speaking about certain issues and are often afraid of criticism.

Prof. Neuman says the technology can be used to find underlying personality traits of politicians through speech analysis. The tool has also been used to analyze social media of terrorist organizations, not as a method of finding the needle in the haystack, but rather, creating a smaller haystack.
