Haaretz – The Israeli military announced that Master Sergeant (reservist) Alon Farkas, 27, was killed in combat in northern Gaza on Tuesday, and another soldier was seriously wounded in the same incident.

Originally from Kibbutz Kabri in northern Israel, Farkas was a neuroscience student at Ben Gurion University of the Negev (BGU) and had completed 300 days of reserve duty since the start of the war.

On Sunday, IDF chief Eyal Zamir ordered the expansion of the Israeli army’s ground operation in the Gaza Strip and ordered the establishment of additional aid distribution centers for the residents of Gaza. During a tour of southern Gaza, Zamir said that Hamas has lost control and that the offensive is continuing “according to a structured plan, at an adjusted pace, until all combat objectives are achieved: the return of all our hostages and the elimination of Hamas’ governing and military capabilities.”

His funeral took place on Wednesday in Pardes Hanna. A spokesperson for Kibbutz Kfar Yehezkel, Adi Kinan, confirmed that the family agreed to donate his organs. Farkas’s parents reside in Pardes Hanna, while his grandparents live in Kibbutz Kfar Yehezkel.

In a recent article in the Jerusalm Post, Alon’s parents stated: “Looking at the images of the fallen, the nobility of the families in the hardest moments reminds us of the strength of our people, the values of solidarity, and the love for humanity.”
