Recently named Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion at BGU, Dr. Sarab Abu-Rabia-Queder is an Israeli-Arab sociologist, anthropologist, and feminist activist. She is the first Bedouin woman in Israel to receive a doctorate and the first Arab woman from the Negev to be promoted to associate professor. Her studies focus on marginality, inequality and agency from gender and ethnic perspectives among minority women in both private and public spheres. The recipient of various awards, including the Toronto Prize for Excellent Young Academic Scholars and Women’s Spirit Association’s “Ot Katan” award for her academic and community activism, Prof. Abu-Rabia-Queder is a leading researcher in gender and women’s studies in the Bedouin society.

 

 

 

Prof. Guy Ben-Porat chairs the Department of Politics and Government at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. Having received his Ph.D. in political science from Johns Hopkins University, Prof. Ben-Porat’s expertise is in comparative politics and public policy. His most recent book is Policing Citizens: Minority Policy in Israel; he is also the author of several other books, including Between State and Synagogue: The Secularization of Contemporary Israel, which won the Yonatan Shapiro Award for Best Book in Israel Studies from the Association for Israel Studies and the Gideon Doron Best Book Award from the Israeli Political Science Association.
